Fall Equinox: A Day of Balance and Reflection

Okay so firstly - Fall or Autumn - which are you?

As the Autumnal Equinox arrives, we are invited into a unique moment of balance—a day when light and dark stand as equals, symbolizing the harmony we can seek within ourselves. Fall, with its crisp air and vibrant foliage, is not just a change of season but a powerful reminder of nature’s cycles and the stories they tell.

The Myth of the Sun God’s Journey

According to ancient mythology, the Sun God, who reigns over the warmth and light of the year, prepares to die after the harvest. This cycle reflects the natural world around us as leaves fall, temperatures cool, and the landscape transforms from the vibrant energy of summer to the quieter hues of Fall. The Sun God’s descent into the underworld is symbolic of the natural ebb and flow of life, reminding us that every ending is also a beginning, and that change is an essential part of the human experience.

This myth serves as a powerful reminder of life’s cycles—of birth, growth, death, and rebirth—and the inevitable transitions we all face. Just as the Sun God makes way for the darker, more introspective months, we too are called to look within and assess what we need to release to make room for new growth. The dying sun symbolizes the parts of our lives that must end, not out of loss but as a necessary step in our journey.

This period invites us to reflect deeply: What burdens are we still carrying that we need to lay down? What outdated beliefs, patterns, or emotions are ready to be released? The Fall Equinox teaches us that there is grace in letting go, just as trees shed their leaves to conserve energy for the winter. Letting go is not just an act of release but a preparation for renewal, making space for what is yet to come.

As we witness the natural world embracing change, we too are encouraged to surrender to this process. It is a time to honour the past seasons of our lives, acknowledge the lessons learned, and let go with gratitude, knowing that the quieter months ahead will provide the space needed for reflection, rest, and eventual rebirth.

What Do You Need to Let Go Of?

The Fall Equinox is a powerful prompt to pause and reflect on our inner landscape. Just as the Earth transitions from the abundance of summer to the stillness of fall, we are invited to consider what in our own lives needs to be released. This seasonal shift nudges us to examine the habits, beliefs, relationships, or situations that no longer support our well-being and growth.

What are you holding onto that feels heavy or stagnant? Perhaps it’s a habit that once served you but now feels like a burden or a belief that has become limiting rather than liberating. Maybe it’s a relationship that has grown distant or unfulfilling or an expectation you place upon yourself that leads to stress rather than fulfillment. The Equinox asks us to confront these parts of our lives with honesty and compassion, recognizing that holding onto what no longer serves us can hinder our ability to embrace new opportunities and experiences.

Letting go is not always easy—it requires courage, vulnerability, and a willingness to face the discomfort of change. But it is also an act of self-compassion, a way of honouring where you’ve been while making room for what is yet to come. Releasing the old creates space for new beginnings, allowing fresh energy, ideas, and possibilities to flow into your life.

In the act of letting go, there is a profound sense of renewal. It’s a process of shedding what feels heavy and unnecessary, just as the trees let go of their leaves in preparation for winter. This symbolic release teaches us that, just like nature, we too must cycle through phases of holding on and letting go. By embracing this natural rhythm, we align ourselves more deeply with the flow of life, opening to the transformative power of change.

As you reflect on this season of balance, ask yourself: What can I release to make space for new growth? What am I ready to let go of to step more fully into who I am becoming? Embrace the courage it takes to release, trusting that this act will bring you closer to your truest, most authentic self.
