Embracing Our Parts and Finding More Joy: Upcoming Webinar
Have you ever felt like different parts of yourself are in conflict, pulling you in various directions? Do you find that anxiety often stands in the way of your happiness? If so, our upcoming webinar, "Embracing Your Parts and Finding More Joy," is designed just for you.
In this session, we'll explore the fascinating world of Internal Family Systems (IFS), a powerful therapeutic approach that helps us understand and harmonize our inner parts, leading to greater self-awareness and joy.
What is Internal Family Systems (IFS)?
Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a transformative model of therapy developed by Dr. Richard Schwartz. It views the mind as a complex system of distinct parts, each with its own feelings, thoughts, and roles. Here's a brief overview to help you get acquainted:
The Core Self: At the center of IFS is the concept of the Self, which represents our true, authentic nature. The Self is characterized by qualities such as calmness, curiosity, compassion, and confidence. When we are in Self, we can effectively lead and integrate our various parts.
Parts: According to IFS, our psyche is made up of multiple parts, which can be categorized into three main types:
Managers: These parts work to protect us by maintaining control over our internal and external environments. They help us avoid pain and manage our daily lives.
Exiles: These parts are often young and vulnerable, carrying the pain and trauma from past experiences. They are usually hidden away to protect us from overwhelming emotions.
Firefighters: These parts act impulsively to extinguish emotional pain, often through behaviors that provide temporary relief but can be harmful in the long run.
Protective Role of Anxiety: Within the IFS framework, anxiety is seen as a protective part. It arises to warn us of potential dangers and keep us safe. By understanding and embracing this anxious part, we can uncover its intentions and work towards soothing it, thereby reducing its control over our lives.
