Discovering Connection Through IFS Parts Work - Join Our Next Webinar!
Are you struggling with feelings of defensiveness that hinder your relationships? Do you wish to create more meaningful connections in your life? Our next webinar, "IFS Parts Work: Defensiveness and Creating More Opportunities for Connection," is here to help.
In this session, we will delve into the Internal Family Systems (IFS) approach to understand how our defensive parts can block our ability to connect with others and how embracing these parts can open up new avenues for deeper relationships.
What is Internal Family Systems (IFS)?
Internal Family Systems (IFS), developed by Dr. Richard Schwartz, is a profound therapeutic model that helps us understand our internal landscape. By recognizing and harmonizing our inner parts, we can achieve greater self-awareness and improve our relationships. Here’s a brief overview:
The Core Self: Central to IFS is the concept of the Self, which embodies our true essence and is characterized by qualities such as calmness, compassion, clarity, and confidence. When we operate from our Self, we can effectively lead and integrate our various parts.
Parts: IFS posits that our mind consists of multiple parts, each with distinct roles and emotions:
Managers: These parts aim to protect us by maintaining control and preventing us from experiencing pain.
Exiles: These parts carry our deep-seated wounds and vulnerabilities, often hidden away to protect us from emotional distress.
Firefighters: These parts act quickly to divert us from our pain, sometimes through impulsive behaviors.
Defensiveness as a Protective Part: In the IFS framework, defensiveness is understood as a protective part that seeks to shield us from perceived threats. While it serves an important role, it can also create barriers to genuine connection. By acknowledging and working with our defensive parts, we can transform them into allies that support healthier interactions.
