My health journey over the past four years has been a rollercoaster of ups and downs. Navigating through a dysfunctional healthcare system, grappling with limited access, and bearing the weight of responsibility to unravel it all on my own has been a significant part of the challenge. I acknowledge that I'm incredibly privileged to have had the means to book appointments with healthcare specialists and access private care practices to delve into the root causes of my health concerns and explore potential solutions.

In solidarity with countless others facing similar struggles, I discovered that I wasn't alone in facing these obstacles. Whether in Canada, with its public healthcare system, or in the US, where private healthcare dominates, many others shared similar struggles in obtaining the care and attention they needed and deserved.

Amidst this journey, I delved into various avenues for information and support. I devoured books, sifted through research articles, listened intently to respected leaders in the health field, and sought solace and advice within supportive communities. I embraced the willingness to experiment with new approaches and therapies, bravely venturing into uncharted territories of wellness.

Now, as I emerge on the other side, I can't help but reflect on the invaluable lessons I've learned:

Advocacy is Essential: We must fiercely advocate for our health, refusing to settle for anything less than comprehensive care that addresses our individual needs and concerns. And yes this is a privileged statement. This means those of us with the means must also advocate for those who can’t so easily do so especially given systemic racism that exists within our healthcare systems.

Embrace Individuality: Recognizing that each of us is unique, I learned that what works for one person may not necessarily work for another. However, certain fundamental principles of wellness resonate universally.

Back to Basics: Amidst the sea of information and myriad of treatment options, I discovered the profound importance of prioritizing the basics – nourishing food, regular movement, and quality sleep serve as the foundation for optimal health and well-being. Get a good night sleep. Eat your veggies. Move your body.

Patience is a Virtue: Perhaps the most challenging lesson to embrace, I've come to understand that healing and progress take time. It's a journey marked by persistence, resilience, and unwavering commitment to self-care. It’s been four years for me and I continue to navigate my health and wellness with renewed curiousity and intentionality.

I’ll be providing more information in a series on my personal health journey and my lessons including what worked for me and what I am currently doing to enhance and maintain my wellbeing.

I may not be particularly inclined towards selling, perhaps to my own disadvantage, but I've taken the initiative to compile a storefront brimming with books, items, and supports that have been instrumental in my own health journey.
